A brief description of the project

The main aim of the project was to identify and promote good practice examples of cooperation between technical universities and faculties and practitioners in creating and realising bachelor and/or the following levels of degree programmes. The project was based on the recommendation of OECD experts from 2006 for deepening the cooperation between universities and practitioners. It also followed up on the project of CHES from the years 2002 – 2004 on cooperation between universities and manufacturing and service companies and on specific experience of UJAK, especially in the field of methodology.

The specific aim of the project was to find degree  programmes, especially bachelor’s programmes, involving cooperation with practitioners in their preparation, eventually in their implementation and quality evaluation and finding out motives, forms, scope and results of this cooperation. The survey mainly used structured interviews and workshops with academic staff and university/faculty leaders and their external partners, conceptual and strategic documents (long-term plans of universities and faculties, annual reports or other open sources) were analysed.

Cooperation in education is undoubtedly related to the cooperation in management of universities and faculties. Often, they are interdependent, therefore the project also focused on finding out, how practitioners and other social partners (including representatives of local communities) as members of  boards of trustees and scientific boards actually influence the activities of universities, how they are involved in internal quality evaluation and quality assurance processes. Based on the gained knowledge, particularly successful cases of cooperation (examples of good practise) were selected for proper promotion and motivation to use. Presentations of project results at the EAIR Forum and other conferences, served as international promotion.

The project was innovative in following up the above-mentioned recommendations from OECD experts, which were formulated for the Czech Republic. The innovation was also in the comprehensive approach to dealing with the project, which linked together the creation of degree programmes, the management role of boards of trustees and and scientific boards and with forms of cooperation at an internal quality evaluation system level as well as at a national level, that is in the area of external quality evaluation, which was in that time the responsibility of the Accreditation Commission and its working groups.

Another aim was to disseminate the project results and publish research studies, which would support the expansion and promotion of the good examples and motivate universities to use them.

Results

The main result was the monograph including research results of all areas of the project and partial results were published as articles in peer-reviewed journals.
