Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) was established on 01/03/1991. It was the former Institute of Higher Education Development, established in January 1981, mainly a scientific and research institution with some information and education responsibilities and running centre taking care of legal protection of research outcomes, centre of audiovisual technology and library, which was transformed into Centre for Higher Education Studies then.
The 1991 transformation was fundamental and led to significant reduction in the number of staff as well as to content of the institution’s activities. The main purpose remained unchanged, thus CHES engages mainly in research and development in the field of higher education.
In 2007 CHES became a public research institution.
Since 2018, CHES has a new director, Radim Ryška, and a new address in Prague – Holešovice.
