To stay or to leave? On a disillusionment of (young) academics and researchers
Abstract: In the Czech Republic the number of PhD students increases annually. However, this growth in numbers of students is not followed by a deeper discussion about career paths of PhD holders and professional development of early career researchers. There are no data and research mapping professional paths of PhD students and holders in and outside academic science. This paper responds to this situation and focuses on those who have left academia and on three main questions: 1) who are those people who have left pedagogical and/or research position in academic science?; 2) what are their reasons for leaving; 3) what are the current working positions of people who left academic science and do they use the knowledge and skills they acquired in science? Special attention is paid to the gender dimension of these questions. The paper is based on quantitative survey including persons who have left the Czech academic science in last ten years and discusses the return of investments made by individuals and academic science.
Higher education science and theory of teacher education as a source for its development
Abstract: The study explores the possibilities of higher education didactics development within the changing conditions of the university education in the Czech Republic. The historical-developmental and comparative research show that theory of teachers training or university teachers training didactics are an important source of the development of university education as educational discipline. The profession of teacher, along with training of future teachers,
are at the intersection of multiple viewpoints. Teachers training didactics researchers focus on two interconnected levels of research. The question of what concept of education and training should be formed in future primary and secondary education teachers leads to observation of the existing education and training conditions that education students work in at the universities. The aim of this study is to present the fundamental trends in teachers training Tudory as a possible source of development of higher education didactics. A brief historical introduction and determination of university education changes from the educational point of view are followed by a presentation of teachers training research areas that might provide stimulus for the development of university didactics.

Postdoctoral support from the Structural Funds of the European Union
Abstract: The article focuses on the possibilities, importance and benefits of postdoctoral support through selected projects financed from the EU structural funds. The purpose of the text is the dissemination of the results of supported postdocs’ work, sharing of experience, which are generally applicable in recruiting postdocs and their involvement in research teams, and recommendations for creating programs and calls. Authors partially reveal the know-how gained in administration of projects at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen with assumption that they can provide valuable information to other administrators and an immediate feedback to the managing authority. The article may also serve as a contribution to a discussion on the postdocs recruitment, internationalization of universities in the Czech Republic through postdoctoral positions and improvement of internal processes at the universities.
