Abstract: In domestic or in foreign sources wasn’t found a comprehensive research process to exploring international mobility. Research of international mobility of university staff is a problem associated with several scientific disciplines. It was quite impossible to formulate a coherent theoretical basis for this multidisciplinary topic. Therefore it was necessary to formulate and to respect the process, which is usual in the creation of good empirical research project.
Article describes the strategy and in particular the methodology that was used in the research of international mobility of university staff. This is the creation of a conceptual framework for the whole problem of the project (international mobility of university staff ) and follow-up methodology based on the use of typological methods. The authors also describe the specific research instruments and their fair application.
The procedure for dealing with the development of higher education, that is leaning on a comprehensive conceptual framework and follow-up methodology is not usual in the Czech Republic.
Abstract: This article presents the results of one of the empirical surveys conducted within the project ZMOVYS (Foreign Mobility of University Employees). In line with the project goal, which was to ascertain the empirical reality concerning the Czech academic staff mobility, the authors present the results of the survey identifying the major obstacles to developing foreign mobility. The respondents in this survey were academic staff who have already participated in foreign mobility (mobility users) and experts (managers of foreign mobility at HEIs). The major limitations, factoring into staff mobility, were identified as: the academic staff ’s overload by academic duties, insufficient personal skills (e.g. foreign language deficiency, inexperience), and unsatisfactory material conditions. The survey shows that both groups of respondents gave broadly similar views, diverging most significantly on the issue of personal skills. The authors maintain that personal skills are seen as a much greater obstacle by the mobility users than by the mobility managers.
Abstract: This article makes use of the data gathered within the project ZMOVYS (Foreign Mobility of University Academic Staff ), aimed at ascertaining the empirical reality of the Czech academic staff mobility. The article deals with some results of the survey that constitutes the empirical part of the project. The authors focus on the structure of the outgoing academic
staff and on the reasons for participating or not participating in the corresponding programmes/ opportunities. The results of the survey show that approximately one half of the
respondents have so far participated only in terms of business trips that lasted ten or fewer days, with around one half of the respondents being through six or more business trips of this
kind. The most often mentioned reasons for participating in foreign mobility were: building up the professional contacts and improving one’s expertness. Conversely, the major reasons
mentioned against foreign mobility are as follows: family duties, no offer to take part in mobility, academic duties, and insufficient knowledge of foreign languages.
Abstract: The article analyzes interviews with international mobility administrators at selected Czech institution of higher education – University of Ostrava, Veterinary and Pharmaceutical
University in Brno, Masaryk University in Brno, and University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The analysis provides a complex overview of the current state of academic and other university staff mobility, summarizes existing issues and problems, and discusses possible solutions from the administrators’ perspective.
Abstract: The article brings an elaborate analysis of foreign mobility of the employees of the University of Ostrava in 2008. It was compiled based on the results of the research project Foreign Mobility of University Employees under the frame of the National Research Programme II, project identification number 2E08008.
Foreign mobility of the academic staff and employees of the University of Ostrava are analyzed based on their number, distribution according to individual faculties and field
of specialization, based on length of stay and type of stay, country of stay, travel financing and other factors. Complex analysis can serve as a case study of a university which is rather active in respect of its foreign mobilities compared to other universities, having a clear and efficient structure of employee support and showing certain particularities which has been discovered and documented during the research.
