Admission
The entrance examination for all study programmes consists of the following subjects: economics and social history, mathematics, and a foreign language of the applicant's choice (English, German, French, Russian or Spanish). The examination is in written form. In 2009/2010, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 3103. The Faculty selected 2387 applicants, i.e., 96,9 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
The faculty offers all the above-mentioned study programmes only in the Czech language. International students are accepted to study in the Czech language and they must abide by the same rules as other students. Many courses are available in English. Materials in English are available in the faculty library. International students can transfer their credits to and from the School of Business Administration. Students should, however, confirm with their home university that it will recognise credits earned at the Silesian University. International students should write to the Department of International Relations for an application form. The deadline for submitting applications is normally the end of February. Applications should include the following: - A completed application form - A letter of motivation (written by the student and stating reasons for the application) - Two passport photos - Photocopy of passport - the page with photograph and personal details - A reference (written by a professor at the applicant's institution) - Statement of grades - Any further information relevant to admission. No tuition fees are paid by foreign students at the faculty. The School of Business Administration offered for the third time its one-year English programme, Doing Business in Central Europe, for foreign students. The aim of the course is to introduce to students the business environment of Central Europe, above all to make them familiar with the economic situation in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The program focuses on practical aspects of business activities and students receive enough useful knowledge of the region. After graduation they are able to start up their own business ventures in the region or they are ready to work as advisors or employees of companies interested in economic ties with businesses in Central Europe. A final paper forms part of the course. Evaluation of each course is contained in the final assessment report.
